"Grotte Alte is a place: the limestone cliffs on which Vittoria, my city, is based. But it is also a wine, the Cerasuolo di Vittoria, from Frappato and Nero d'Avola, the synthesis of Sicily. It is a wine Mediterranean that preserves the flavor of the sea and all the air and the thermal excursions of the Iblei mountains. It is harmonious and has known a...
The Frappato 2016 of the young and talented Arianna Occhipinti comes from the Province of Ragusa, the Frappato grapes come from vineyards located at 270 meters above sea level on medium consistency soils composed of sub-Apennine limestone sand. The aging on the fine lees lasts 14 months in Slavonian oak barrels, after which the wine rests for two months...
Arianna Occhipinti was born in Marsala in 1982 and already in 2004, at the age of 22 years back from Milan with a degree in Viticulture and Enology, she decides that it would become a winemaker, colliding at the time with a macho mentality and dull. Her strength and desire not to give up have allowed her to be today one of the world's largest wine talents: from 1 hectar of land with which she began, she has expanded its organic farm up to boast 18 hectares of vineyards and 12 hectares of olive groves and arable land.
The land is situated in the Province of Ragusa in the splendid scenery of the Hyblean Mountains, while the house-winery is located in Vittoria, in a superb old winery overlooking a landscape of long rows of vines to tree.
Arianna Occhipinti are mainly Frappato, Nero d'Avola, Muscat of Alexandria and Albanello;in each of the wines we can find all herself: the determination, the joy, the roughness and the fragility of a girl who is still maturing, but also the contradictions and waivers, the trouble of feeling alone in contact with something as big as the earth.
In the vineyard applies the utmost respect for the ecosystem and the landscape, the techniques used are based on the principles of biodynamic agriculture despite the company is certified organic.
