Joelle and Claude Papin-Chevalier acquired Chateau Pierre Bise about 30 years ago, the company owns more than 32 hectares of vineyards in Anjou (Loire Valley) and produces a wide range of dry white, red and sweet wines. The Papin philosophy can be summarized in three concepts: terroir, polyphenols and botrytis. And his conviction that a great wine can be defined only through the interaction of these three aspects; to be able to express the terroir, to its wines must be allowed to maintain the optimal level of polyphenols thus avoiding the cleavage of the polyphenolic molecules. The white grape queen of wines of Chateau Pierre Bise is Chenin Blanc wine from Claude to realize magnificent dry white wines (Savennières AOC) and sweet wines (Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume AOC); the black-berry grapes grown on the farm are Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay and Cabernet Franc (Anjou AOC).
At the end of 2011 the efforts of Papin were rewarded, with the approval of the Grand Cru status for Quarts de Chaume (making it the first Grand Cru in the Loire) and Premier Cru status for Coteaux du Layon.
