The vineyards, from which the grapes for the production of Fontalloro originate, are found within the Chianti Classico in the upper part of Fèlsina and in the denomination of the Chianti Colli Senesi (at heights between 330 and 407 meters s.l.m).
Domenico Poggiali bought the Fèlsina farm in 1966 and with a courageous act at that difficult time of Italian viticulture he chose to invest in the quality of the wine and the expertise of some young people.
Viticulture enthusiasts and skilled entrepreneurs, Domenico and his son Giuseppe Poggiali modernized the management of the countryside without abandoning the spirit of tradition. In the space of a few years the vineyard acres became more than forty and they also changed the soul and the organization of the company.
In the second half of the seventies, his son-in-law Giuseppe Mazzocolin joined the company, with the task of developing the company commercially. His humanistic culture and awareness of the responsibility of man in work contributed to growing the wine culture in Italy and abroad, obtaining the first international awards.
The friendship with Luigi Veronelli and the collaboration with the oenologist Franco Bernabei have traced a path that is revealed with extreme consistency in the wines since the 1983 vintage, the first of Fontalloro and Rancia, up to the present day. Under the guidance of Domenico and Giuseppe Poggiali, he began a path that from 1990 sees Giovanni Poggiali, the first of Giuseppe's three sons, as the protagonist.
