The Domaine Tortochot based in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Wine origins of Tortochot family can be traced back to the early '900 when Paul Tortochot cultivated grapes for the production of fine wines. Felix, Paul's son, married Louise LIEBAUT from Morey-St-Denys and Tortochot family acquired a dowry of land planted with vines, in turn inherited by Gabriel, father of the current owner Chantal Tortochot. Gabriel Tortochot was a fervent defender of Burgundy wines, in particular through his actions as president of the "Syndicat Viticultural de Gevrey-Chambertin" and its role in the "Comité National de L'INAO". His strong passion for Terroir was transmitted to her two daughters, Brigitte and Chantal Tortochot, which cultivated and vinified with the utmost respect for the traditions of Burgundy. The vineyard management is classic with low vines, densely planted (10,000 plants / Ha). In the vineyard it is practiced organic farming, certified by Ecocert: the only fertilizers used are biodynamic preparations. The harvest is manual, the grapes are completely de-stemmed. In the cellar the grapes are crushed to release the juice and promote fermentation activated by only indigenous yeasts, cold maceration pre-fermentation lasts 4 or 5 days; the temperatures are controlled in such a way that does not exceed 32°. It is aged in 100% new barrels for the Grands Crus, 50% for Premier Cru and 25% for the Village. The duration of the 'èlevage varies between 15 and 18 months. The wines are all top coming from Terroir of choice: you think the Chambertin, the Mazis-Chambertin, Gevrey-Chamberton Lavaux-St-Jacques....
We had the good fortune to visit the Domanie Tortochot in April 2013, below some photos.
