Ca 'Nova is a small company located in a nineteenth-century farmhouse in the center of Barbaresco. The company has been in business for about 40 years and the owners, the Rocca brothers, work constantly in the company between the vineyard, the cellar and commercial and public relations commitments. The company consists of 14 hectares of vineyards, treated with absolute respect for the environment and the natural cycles of the vine and two Barbaresco crus are made, Montestefano and Montefico as well as Barbaresco.
Wine Description
The Barbaresco Montestefano DOCG 2018 was born in Barbaresco, on the Langa hills where, in a 19th century farmhouse, the La Cà Nova farm is based. The Montestefano selection was born in the vineyard of the same name, a real cru of Barbaresco, from three hectares of over thirty-year-old vines that have their roots in calcareous soils and excellent exposures. The vinification and aging system is traditional, with long macerations in steel and the use of large barrels for aging.
Climate
The 2018 vintage was characterized by a long winter characterized by precipitation capable of restoring the water supply of the soil weakened during the 2017 climatic trend. The winter season lasted until the beginning of March with temperatures below the historical average, favoring a slow vegetative restart of the vine. Both spring and the first part of summer continued with frequent rainfall and low temperatures. From the middle of July the temperatures have risen significantly; the long and stable period of good weather favored the slow and regular ripening of the grapes, while maintaining the heterogeneity between the vineyards.
Tasting Notes
Beautiful garnet color, hazy. On the nose we find the exaltation of the varietal aspect of the Nebbiolo grape: the floral and citrus scents are clear and well defined as well as the spicy component is well expressed. Excellent correspondence to the sip, the wine is fresh and elegant with a vibrant acidity to act as a backbone; the progression in the mouth is continuous and the tannin is sure to drag. Long and tasty finish.
