The name and the life of Nello Baricci have always merged and made a single body with the hill of Montosoli, a cru named for its ancient vocation to reserve wines. The Riserva NELLO is born from the best performing grapes coming from the best parcel of our best vineyard, the so-called “cru nel cru”. The "best of the best" in a limited edition, on a special numbered label and in wooden cases, only from exceptional vintages that allow very long refinements in the bottle. The label that completes our panorama and celebrates forever a man and a life lived and dedicated to making Sangiovese great in Montalcino and for Montalcino.
After vinification in steel, the wine is aged for 40 months in 5-hectolitre oak barrels followed by aging in the bottle for another 18 months. The first vintage was 2010 with a production of about 1500 bottles. Current production is around 2400 bottles and 20 highly sought-after magnums.
The sprouting took place during the first week of April and continued to grow regularly, taking advantage of the abundant water reserves left since 2014 and rainfall in the winter of 2015. The season continued with a dry and sunny climate, which allowed a homogeneous development of the vegetative wall. July was very hot and dry with temperatures 5 ° C higher than average; thanks to the agronomic choices that we have been perpetuating for years, such as the autumn tillage, sowing of green manures and the management of the foliage, the vines have not been excessively affected by the high temperatures in July. In the first week of August, two important rains gave relief to the plants and lowered the temperatures allowing the vines to synthesize aromas, anthocyanins and tannins; of primary importance for the quality of the wines.
Elegant ruby red to the eye, with garnet reflections. The nose opens on notes of overripe red fruit, and then turns on the tertiaries of licorice, leather and wet earth. There is no shortage of shades of coffee and chocolate. Gritty but well integrated tannins, excellent structure and long persistence.
Wine with great evolutionary prospects.
Taste it at a temperature of 18 ° C, ideal with red meats, it is best paired with roast veal.
