This splendid wine was born in the renowned Barbaresco Cru called Montestefano, on marly-limestone soils and facing the south. The vineyards (over fifty years old) are a few meters away from the workshop where Teobaldo Rivella and his wife, expertly supporting the vintage, give us a traditional-style Barbaresco: 25-day maceration on the skins, use of only indigenous yeasts and aging in large barrels for 36 months followed by further refinement in the bottle.
The 2018 vintage was characterized by a long winter characterized by rainfall capable of restoring the water supply of the soil weakened during the 2017 climatic trend. The winter season lasted until the beginning of March with temperatures below the historical average, favoring a slow vegetative restart of the vine. Both spring and the first part of summer continued with frequent rainfall and a cool climate. From the middle of July the temperatures have risen significantly; the long and stable period of good weather favored the slow and regular ripening of the grapes, while maintaining the heterogeneity between the vineyards.
Barbaresco Montestefano has a bright ruby color with a light garnet nail. The bouquet is complex on the nose, with notes of raspberry, roses, spices and tar. On the palate, finesse and elegance stand out, with soft and velvety tannins, excellent structure, and perfect balance between fruit, alcohol and acidity. Long persistence with a finish that evokes the land and game.
It is a long aging wine.
Taste it at a temperature of 16 ° -18 ° C combined with a stewed hare.
