Launched in 2005, the conversion to organic viticulture was carried out three years later with the ECOCERT certification with the 2008 vintage. Since 2012, the specifications also include cellar operations so that it is now possible to talk about organic wines.
Wine description
Various terroirs concentrated around Ribeauvillé: Scherbengans, Haguenau and Castel.
Ribeauvillé terroirs are located in the field of Ribeauvillé fracture. They constitute a structure of highly fragmented geological compartments. They are mainly hard limestones, clays and marls of Lias and Triassic, sandstone clays, limestone and calcium conglomerates of Oligocene. Muscats are generally found in the light, well exposed and protected from the wind (to protect the flower).
Climate
After a mild and very rainy winter, the soil's water reserves have reached an excellent level. Some plots in very humid areas show symptoms of suffocation of the roots due to excess water. Soil maintenance work was complicated but well done.
The sprout started around mid-April with flowering in mid-June on Ribeauvillé. The slight delay in Ribeauvillé allowed it to take place in good condition. The outputs are beautiful with the potential for large, well-formed clusters. Unfortunately, this great potential will be partially undermined due to the unusually humid and mild weather conditions that will generate the pressure of late blight rarely observed in the past 3 decades, leading to the loss of part of the inflorescences. In the period April-July the cumulative rainfall on the Ribeauvillé reaches 360 mm, that is to say over 50% of the annual rainfall. From August onwards, the situation completely reversed with an almost total stop of rainfall (25 mm between August and mid-September). This allows the vineyard to resume a more normal development. Since the water reserves have been established, this drought will have few consequences on our vineyards of hills made up of well-rooted old vines. A final burn phenomenon on some bunches exposed to the west will lead to further losses of harvesting potential during the hot days of August.
Tasting notes
Pale yellow color with greenish reflections, fine and elegant nose that strongly recalls the aromas of the Moscato grape. On the palate, the attack is frank, quickly transmitted by a beautiful expression of the fruit. Dry spirit wine with a delicious and fresh finish.
Aging capacity
Wine ready to be tasted but does not mind a few years of aging in the bottle.
Small tips
Taste it at a temperature of 8 ° -10 ° C. Ideal as an aperitif, it combines well with asparagus or strawberries.
