WINE DESCRIPTION

The vineyard from which the Riesling Grand Cru Kirchberg de Ribeauville originates benefits from the south-south-west exposure, in combination with a marked slope, giving excellent insolation during ripening. The substrate consists of dolomitic marl and upstream of chalk marl. Clay soils, often very stony, on which the Riesling vineyards are located in the historic heart of the Grand Cru.

CLIMATE

In December 2010, numerous snow phenomena occurred while the rest of the winter was however milder and sunnier than normal with very low rainfall (26 or 14 mm in January and February 2011). This lack of precipitation lasted until June.
The bud burst took place fifteen days before a normal year. The dry and sunny climate allowed a rapid development of the vegetative cycle of the vine, with consequent flowering 2 to 3 weeks in advance. The good weather conditions during flowering have led to good results. Only a few plots (in particular Riesling) have undergone millerandage phenomena.
The wetter and colder summer months slowed down the development of the vines. At the end of August, about 50 millimeters of rainfall was missing compared to 2010 and 2009. Much of the precipitation deficit was therefore compensated.
During this year, the vineyard was constantly turned over in extreme conditions: very mild or even hot temperatures in the spring, dryness afterwards, heavy rains during the summer months. The difficulty was to manage the land in the best possible way, in order to avoid too strong competition from the turf during the dry period and to have grass later to absorb heavy rainfall and avoid too rapid an increase in size. berries.
The wines of this vintage are quickly appreciated.

TASTING NOTES

Splendid golden yellow color with green reflections. The nose is expressive, fruity and fragrant (mango, papaya, nectarine, mandarin) bringing the exotic touch to this Grand Cru. In the mouth it is very pleasant and delicately structured, the mandarin has its effect. Dry but not hard, broad but not heavy, this riesling shows a great structure and volume. The finish is salty and long and the great strength of this wine is given by its power and balance brought about thanks to organic agriculture.

AGING CAPACITY

Wine ready to be tasted and with excellent aging margins.

SMALL TIPS

Taste it at a temperature of 8 ° -10 ° C. Ideal with fish, seafood and shellfish in sauce, white meats but also goat cheese. It can also accompany an entire meal.
