It comes from Chardonnay grapes grown and grown in Chassagne-Montrachet in the vineyard classified as Grand Cru Batard Montrachet. The rocks below the ground date back to the Jurassic period, 175 million years before Christ. The exposures are located in the East and the South with altitudes ranging from 265 m to 290 m. In the Climat, the soils are thin and stony derived from marl and marly limestone. The terroir and the 2018 vintage give us a wine on the fruit, of great structure with a marked minerality. All the grapes are de-stemmed before fermentation for 12/14 days, with temperatures up to 35 ° C. Aging takes place in new Alliers oak barrels (between 15% and 30%) for 11-12 months.
The 2018 harvest surprised us both for its abundant quantity and for its exceptional quality. Winter 2017-18 was moderately cold with temperatures sometimes below freezing in the morning but rapidly positive in the afternoon. These cool temperatures are accompanied by high humidity that regularly covers the vines with a beautiful white coat. March is also a bit cold and nature struggles to wake up. The weather heats up sharply in the first days of April. Development is so rapid that cooling is expected which can slow down the vines a bit. May and June bring abundant rainfall. At the beginning of June, flowering occurs rapidly in drought conditions that are very favorable to the development of the bunches. The aquifers are at their maximum and the heat of the day does not allow the humidity to settle, which allows the grapes to develop in exceptionally favorable conditions. It is already very hot in late June and temperatures between 26 June and the end of August will very often be well above seasonal norms with highs exceeding 30 ° almost daily, interrupted only by good rain on the 13 August arriving. to refresh the grounds. The harvest begins at the end of August. The quantity collected surprises us given the torrid summer experienced. Grapes show a good balance of sugar and acidity and health couldn't be better.
More intense yellow color than the previous one and with greater aromatic complexity. On the palate it is rich, with an almost creamy texture, of impressive concentration.
